Author Guidelines
The Journal of Applied and Natural Sciences (JANAS) is an official Publication of the College of Science, Federal University of Agriculture Zuru, hereby wishes to invite original articles written in English from interested researchers and scholars in the academic communities and other research institutions for publication. JANAS is a high quality biannual, open access, peer reviewed, online and print journal which cuts across subject areas Agriculture, Veterinary medicine, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Science Education, Technology Education, Engineering etc. The Primary aim of JANAS is targeted at publishing any of the following categories of articles:
- Research article: This is an article of full length research findings. It consists of original findings and should not be more than Fifteen (15) pages.
- Short communication: This article presents research findings that do not require complete publication. It could be a preliminary finding needed to be rapidly published. It should not be more than Seven (7) pages.
- Review article: This article focuses on evaluating the existing state of knowledge with a particular special interest in a specific topic or field in Physical sciences. It should not be more than Twenty (20) pages.
GUIDE TO AUTHORS
Title: Arial, 14-point size, bold, and not more than 15 words
Abstract: It is a single-paragraph concise summary of the whole paper and should not be more than 300 words. For research articles; abstracts should give a pertinent overview of the work. It should be understandable without reference to the rest of the article. The abstract should include brief but specific components outlined as follows: (i) Background: Place the question addressed in a broad context and highlight the purpose of the study; (ii) Methods: Describe briefly the main methods or treatments applied; (iii) Results: Summarize the article's main findings; and (iv) Conclusion: Indicate the main conclusions or interpretations. The abstract should be an objective representation of the article: it must not contain results which are not presented and substantiated in the main text and should not exaggerate the main conclusions First-person tense construction should not be used, and references should be avoided. Author(s) should include 3 to 5 keywords separated by a -semi-column.
Main body/Text: The text should be divided into sections, each with a separate heading as follows;
- Introduction: A concise introduction of the background to the subject using the present tense is required. It should include a brief statement of the problem, significance, and relationship to earlier works with references. Subtitles/headings under this section should carry the labels 1.1, 1.2, 1.3…..Tables should be labeled as 1.1, 1.2…..Figures should be labelled as Figure 1.1, 1.2….etc.
- Materials and methods: This section should be presented with clarity and detail. The techniques and methodology adopted should be supported with standard references. Subtitles/headings under this section should carry the labels 1, 2.2, 2.3…..Tables should be labeled as 2.1, 2.2…..Figures should be labeled as Figure 2.1, 2.2….etc.
- Results and discussion: Results may be split into subheadings. Statistically analyzed data from the study should be arranged in a unified and coherent sequence. Data already presented in a Table should not be represented graphically. Past tense should be used in describing the result. Lengthy, confusing, and irrelevant discussions should be avoided. Salient points/findings from the study should be discussed and supported by relevant previous and latest references. Subtitles/headings under this section should carry the labels 3.1, 3.2, 3.3…etc. Tables, Figures and Illustrations: Large and complex tables, figures, and maps should be avoided in the main paper but may be included in the appendix for use by the reviewer. All figures should be saved in a neutral data format such as JPEG. Tables and figures in the main text must be numbered separately in the sequence they are mentioned, such as 3.1, 3.2, …etc.
- Similarly, each table and figure must be presented on a separate page with a brief and self-explanatory title. All tables must have horizontal lines only at the top and bottom. Notes may be required under each table and figure to explain and specify the data source and abbreviations.
- Conclusion: This is a concise deduction drawn from the findings. The author (s) should avoid citing similar work; rather, a conclusive inference with respect to the research subject should be presented.
- Acknowledgment: Author(s) may wish to acknowledge those who contributed immensely to the article but do not fulfill the requirement for authorship. The author (s) should, however, acknowledge the sponsor or funding agency.
- References: References and citations must be in proper format. References should be cited in the text by surname of the author(s) and the year e,g Adeniyi (1986), Dashora and Pandey (2007). In case of more than two authors, surname of the first author followed by et al. and the year should be cited in the text, e.g., Saranya et al. (2011) or (Saranya et al., 2011). If two or more papers were published by the same author in one year, add a, b or c to differentiate each. At the end of the paper is the list of references section. References should be complete, well punctuated, and arranged alphabetically (If they have the same author, they should be in chronological order) by the first ''” author’s surname as follows;

Manuscript Submission
Submission of the manuscript shall be made online through the Journal website @ JANAS.com.
- Authors are to pay Five thousand naira (N5,000) as a processing fee,. Upon acceptance, Fifteen thousand naira will be paid as a publication fee (N15,000), totaling twenty thousand naira (N20,000) only.
- Authors are entitled to a copy of JANAS upon payment of all fees. Extra copies can be purchased at N5,000 per Journal (subject to review).
Submission of Manuscript
The Journal website is currently under construction and will be available immediately upon completion.
